According to the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily's report on Oct. 24, Yantian Port handled 11.05 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) from January to September this year, marking a 9.3% increase year on year.
As the world’s largest single-container terminal, Yantian Port’s bustling activity reflects Shenzhen’s leadership in foreign trade and symbolizes China’s openness and role in global economic cooperation. This year, Yantian Port launched its first direct shipping route to Africa and expanded its rapid cross-border e-commerce shipping routes to a total of 11.
Research shows that for large international container ships docking on schedule, the hourly cost is approximately US$15,000. If a ship arrives at night and has to wait until daylight for loading and unloading, the operating costs could exceed US$100,000. To address this, Shenzhen Customs has implemented a 24-hour on-demand inspection service, using 5G remote quarantine technology to improve the efficiency of ship inspections, reduce docking wait times, and ensure smooth customs clearance.
Wu Xiaobin, an employee of China Ocean Shipping Agency Shenzhen Co. Ltd., stated that the 24-hour on-demand inspection has significantly reduced wait times for ships requiring inspection, improving the efficiency of port berths and navigation. From January to September this year, Shenzhen Customs worked overtime to conduct more than 300 nighttime ship inspections for companies.
