The winners of the third Yantian Marine Book Award were revealed at a ceremony held at the Hejing Tongchuang Plaza. Eight outstanding works celebrating ocean-themed literature were recognized, including:
?Chinese Original Award: The Story of ‘Nanhai I’: China’s Underwater Archaeology and the Maritime Silk Road
?Tides Award: Between Man and Sea: China’s Role in Oceanic Asia and the World
?Marine Literature Award: Island Dwelling
?Bay Area Light Award: Illustrated Guide to Marine Animals of the Greater Bay Area
Other award-winning titles included books on evolutionary mysteries, maritime trade history, and the relationship between water systems and Asia’s cultural development. These works were praised for their intellectual depth and contribution to public understanding of marine topics, offering readers a pathway to “awaken the deep blue.”
As part of the 25th Shenzhen Reading Month, the event was hosted by the Publicity Department of the Yantian District CPC Committee and the Yantian District Bureau of Culture, Media, Tourism, and Sports, with support from the Yantian District Library (Marine Library) and the Yantian Marine Culture Research Association.
The Yantian Marine Book Award is the first literary prize in China dedicated to marine-focused literature. It aims to promote marine culture, encourage ecological awareness, and support oceanic research. By recognizing books that blend science, storytelling, and cultural insight, the award reflects Shenzhen’s commitment to becoming a global maritime hub and underscores the role of marine culture in shaping the city’s identity and future development.
