Shenzhen’s Hutchison Ports YANTIAN made history Nov. 26 with the launch of the world’s first chassis-based battery swap station for heavy-duty trucks. This cutting-edge facility is a milestone in the port’s drive toward green and smart logistics and sets a new standard for sustainability in the global port industry.
During the launch event, a live demonstration highlighted the station’s efficiency, as an electric heavy truck’s battery was swapped in just five minutes—a dramatic improvement from the typical one-hour charging process. This breakthrough is expected to significantly boost logistics efficiency while reducing downtime for vehicles.
The station’s chassis-based design offers notable benefits, including faster operations, cost savings, enhanced safety, and environmental advantages. Compared to traditional diesel trucks, the new system is projected to lower energy costs by 20%, reduce diesel consumption by over 2,000 tons annually, and cut carbon emissions by more than 5,000 tons each year.
“Hutchison Ports YANTIAN is proud to lead the way in green logistics,” said a port official. “This battery swap station not only aligns with global sustainability goals but also showcases how technology can transform the efficiency and environmental footprint of the logistics industry.”
The initiative reinforces Hutchison Ports YANTIAN’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship while providing a scalable model for ports worldwide to adopt cleaner, more efficient technologies.
