From Nov. 26 to 27, a delegation of over 20 editors and journalists from both domestic and international backgrounds participated in the "2024 International Journalists Explore Shenzhen" program organized by People's Daily Online. Immersing themselves in the unique charm of this bustling city’s slower-paced lifestyle in Yantian District, the journalists shared their experiences through news reports and social media posts, quickly capturing the attention of global audiences.
Standing amidst Yantian’s stunning landscape, Greek journalist Konstantinos Papathanasiou couldn’t help but draw comparisons to his homeland: “The breathtaking views of mountains and sea remind me of Greece — of Mount Hymettus and the Port of Piraeus near Athens.”
At Xiaomeisha Sea World, the journalists marveled at the vibrant marine life. A mechanical whale shark danced among schools of shimmering golden fish, while tens of thousands of sardines created an awe-inspiring “underwater storm.” Groups of students on field trips wandered through the exhibits, exploring the mysteries of the blue world.
The delegation then visited Dameisha’s “Biosphere 3,” a near-zero-carbon community that serves as one of Shenzhen’s pioneering green architecture projects. With 85% of its energy derived from renewable sources, the community reduces over 800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, showcasing an innovative model for sustainable, low-carbon urban living.
In the evening, the group toured the lively night market. Warm yellow lights illuminated the tables as locals and tourists sat together, savoring delicious street food. In the distance, the brilliantly lit Yantian Port stood as a stunning backdrop, a testament to the district’s vibrant blend of modernity and tradition.
The visit left the journalists captivated, offering a fresh perspective on Yantian’s harmonious integration of natural beauty, cutting-edge sustainability, and cultural richness.
