Yantian braces for heavy rain

From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2024-07-23

AS Typhoon Prapiroon, the fourth of the year, barrels toward southern China, Yantian District is preparing for heavy rain and strong winds.

The typhoon, which formed in the central South China Sea, was projected to make landfall between Sanya and Qionghai in Hainan Province between midnight last night and early this morning.

As of 5 a.m. yesterday, Prapiroon was centered approximately 125 kilometers southwest of Sansha City in Hainan, with maximum wind speeds of 18 meters per second (level 8). The typhoon is moving northwest at about 10 kilometers per hour and is forecast to intensify slightly before making landfall.

Shenzhen, which has been under a white typhoon warning since 10 p.m. Saturday, is bracing for significant weather changes due to Prapiroon’s outer circulation.

The coastal areas of Shenzhen are particularly vulnerable, with winds expected to strengthen and pose risks to coastal tourism and maritime activities. Residents and visitors are advised to monitor weather updates and seek shelter when necessary.

Intermittent thunderstorms and showers are expected to continue in Shenzhen from today through Friday.
