On June 2, Shenzhen’s Yantian Port successfully completed the nation’s first dual-ship LNG refueling. Two overseas container ships were simultaneously refueled by the LNG bunker vessels "Putuo" and "Ocean Petroleum 301" at berths 9 and 16, with over 10,000 cubic meters of LNG fuel transferred.

The maritime authority had been informed that two international container ships would dock at Yantian Port on the same day, June 2, for refueling. In order to avoid any delays in the ships' schedule and minimize logistic costs, it was necessary for the port to refuel both ships simultaneously. To successfully carry out this dual-ship refueling operation, the port needed to address two main issues: ensuring safe operations of the ships in close proximity and carefully calculating the entry and exit order of all four vessels while evaluating and controlling water conditions.

To ensure a smooth operation, the maritime authority held a coordination meeting with relevant departments, enterprises, and representatives of the container ships to develop a detailed plan for entry and exit order and emergency protocols. Once the operation began, the authority implemented sea traffic control and increased patrols around the port.

The successful completion of this dual-ship refueling operation marks a significant breakthrough in the construction of the Shenzhen International Navigation Vessel Bonded Fuel Refueling Center. This achievement enhances the fuel supply guarantee capability of the Shenzhen International Shipping Fuel Refueling Center and improves the comprehensive service capability of the port. It also solidifies Shenzhen Port’s status as an international hub port and provides valuable experience for other domestic ports to conduct similar operations.

In 2022, Yantian Port joined the ranks of Singapore, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and China’s Shanghai as one of the world's four ports capable of providing LNG refueling services.
