The 25th Shenzhen Reading Month’s Yantian subvenue officially opened on Nov. 8 at Linyuan Primary School. This year’s event aims to connect reading with Yantian’s distinctive mountain and sea landscapes, encouraging residents to engage with literature, nature, and life through curated reading experiences.
In recent years, Yantian District has enhanced its cultural influence by weaving arts and reading into its key development initiatives, such as building low-altitude and marine economies and establishing new platforms for Shenzhen-Hong Kong collaboration. The district has launched several notable cultural programs, including the Shenzhen Marine Poetry Festival, the “Moonlight on the Sea” concert series, and ten “Sea Libraries” with scenic lighthouses and ocean views. Yantian’s unique “Sea Reading” initiative was recently selected as a Shenzhen Model Reading Project, and the district also introduced the Yantian Marine Book Award, the first in China dedicated to marine literature.
Further adding to Yantian’s cultural landscape, the district has established the Shenzhen (Yantian) Marine Image Center and regularly publishes the Marine Vitality Monthly Report, strengthening its image as a vibrant coastal community. It has also hosted three seasons of the Bay Area Youth Poetry Conference. At the same time, the Vanke Dameisha Biosphere 3 project integrates carbon-neutral reading into low-carbon community development, earning multiple national awards.
During the opening event, a “Mountains and Sea” poetry performance featured over a thousand participants reading in unison, filling the venue with the rhythms of classic works like "At the Pond," and "Ascending the Spring Mountains." The performance added a vibrant literary touch to Yantian’s winter, reflecting the district’s growing commitment to cultural enrichment and public engagement.
