On Nov. 14, the cultural event “Reading Poetry for You in the Greater Bay Area — The Moon Over Mountains and Seas” — kicked off at the Wutong Mountain Forest Salon in Yantian District, Shenzhen. The event brought together prominent figures from various fields to celebrate poetry, culture, and music, creating an immersive artistic experience for attendees.
Notable participants included cultural historian, poet, and calligrapher Cheng Pei-kai; and media personality Ouyang Xiadan. They performed live poetry recitals, engaging both online and in-person audiences in a shared appreciation of literary and artistic expression.
The event also featured musical performances, with guqin artist Chen Lei, cellist Zhang Hong, and flute and xiao performer Cai Lei offering a unique blend of classical and contemporary sounds. Their performances provided an elegant backdrop to the poetry readings, enhancing the event’s atmosphere of cultural refinement.
Cheng Pei-kai praised Yantian’s efforts to promote culture and the arts, saying, “Yantian excels in fostering cultural, artistic, and literary engagement. Events like this bring together people from different fields to exchange ideas, encouraging open-mindedness and creativity.”
Ouyang Xiadan, reflecting on her impressions of the setting, remarked, “Standing at the Wutong Pavilion, I felt a deep connection with the mountains and seas around me. This is where the poetic essence of Shenzhen truly shines.” She recited the poem” On Feelings, No. 1” by Lingnan poet Zhang Jiuling, highlighting its message of vitality across all seasons: “Whether in spring’s renewal or winter’s stillness, life flourishes when its spirit thrives.”
A poetry challenge segment added excitement to the event, with students Wang Yiru from Yantian District Tiandong Primary School and Zhang Xiang from Longgang Foreign Language School impressing the audience with their deep knowledge of classical poetry. Wang expressed her appreciation for the event, saying, “Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Yantian, listening to poetry and music performed by such distinguished guests, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the beauty of poetry.”
